The number of foreign tourists visiting Siem Reap, home of the Kingdom’s iconic Angkor Wat temples, in 2011 is expected to have jumped 23 per cent year-on-year, according to provincial tourism officials. Foreign tourists to the province totaled 1.4 million through November, or 100,000 more than visited in all of 2010, Ngov Sengkak, director of the Ministry of Tourism’s provincial office in Siem Reap, said….

Mt Waverley students give a help hand to Cambodia

A GROUP of Mount Waverley Secondary College students has raised money for counterparts in Cambodia. After discussions on poverty and gender inequality in developing countries with aid group the Oaktree Foundation, the students raised $3000.

Cambodia’s Impoverished Education System
I recently traveled to Cambodia to research their education system. During my visit, I stopped by the campus of the Royal University of Phnom Penh, the oldest and largest university in the nation, to talk to professors, administrators, and students. I also visited the Chroy Changvar Primary School in Phnom Penh where I observed students learning.....
Cambodia Tourism received double digit growth
International tourist arrivals to Cambodia posted a double digit growth of 13.5% in October, while over the 10-month period the improvement reached 15.4%
After opening an office in Thailand, tourism started to grow rapidly. Only in October due to flooding in Thailand, there was a decline of 18.4% in arrivals. In October, just 10,431 Thais visited Cambodia....

‘Boarding’ school teaches Khmer kids the art of skating

...When two Australian skaters dropped their boards on the streets of Kabul in 2007, they were bombarded by curious children who wanted to learn the sport for themselves. Using the three boards they had on them, the Australians developed Skateistan, a skateboarding school which now teaches more than 400 Afghan children at an indoor skate park in Kabul....

Among 40,000 children from 60 countries, Cambodian Song Sothy is the second Cambodian boy to win a prize at this year’s EU International Drawing Competition on the theme of Gender Equality. Song Sothy was awarded a prize equivalent to €1,000 (US$1,304)....
